They told the story
of a young man of about 20 years of age who was taking a walking tour of southern France
back in 1913 in the province of Provence.
But the land had
dried out because there were almost no trees to protect it from the sun. Even the animals
had fled.
The villages were old and run-down and the villagers had left the
countryside because of the land's poor condition.
