of
The Energy Conservation and
Environmental Consulting Company
(EEC)

Objectives
EEC's main objectives are to promote efficient use of energy in all economic sectors and develop and initiate climate change mitigation measures and projects.
Activities
EEC's main activities are:
-
Energy audits, energy conservation and energy management advisory services and related training at the Mongolian industries and enterprises and other sectors;
-
Local consulting services for grand and soft loan international energy efficiency related projects financed by donor organizations as ADB, World Bank, TACIS and others;
-
Investigation of Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, GHG mitigation potential assessment study, participation in regional and international climate change mitigation projects, identification of CDM projects which can be implemented in Mongolia;
-
Sustainable energy development study
Sample Projects
-
Asia Least-cost Greenhouse Gas Abatement Strategy (ALGAS), Mongolia (1998)
EEC experts have been participated in the energy part of the ALGAS project as national technical experts. ALGAS is a study by 12 Asian countries of national emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in 1990, the projections of GHG emissions to 2020, and analysis of GHG abatement options in different economic sectors. The study includes the formulation of national GHG abatement strategies consistent with national development priorities, and the preparation of a portfolio of GHG abatement projects.
-
TACIS Project: Support to the Mongolian energy sector for Implementation of an
Energy Conservation programme and Rational use of Energy in Industry (1998-1999)
Within the TACIS project, the following new technologies has been implemented as demonstration projects on efficient use of energy: a) new technology steam traps in a meat processing plant; b) heat recovery from drying process in a textile factory; c) direct acting steam control valves in a wool scouring factory; d) variable speed pump motor control in a brewery; e) improved insulation and trace heating on pipes in a pharmaceutical factory.
-
Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Case Study in the Energy Sector (1998-2000) of the National Action Plan of Climate Change in Mongolia (Netherlands support project)
The Netherlands Climate Change Studies Assistance Programme supports Mongolia to develop a Climate Change Action Plan. This includes activities to strengthen national capacities to assess climate change and develop mitigation strategies and projects.
Steps of the mitigation part of this project were:
a) analyze present and projected future energy demand and supply as well as present and projected energy-related GHG emissions;
b) determine energy supply and demand as well as energy related emissions (reference years 2000, 2010 and 2020); and
c) conduct pre-feasibility studies for selected priority technologies.
The following priority sectors have been selected for the GHG mitigation case studies:
a) fossil fuel sector;
b) renewable energy;
c) central power plants;
d) medium and small scale energy conversion;
e) district heating and building environment;
f) industry;
g) preparation of the case study report for each selected option; and
h) preparation of the Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Case Study in the Energy Sector (1998-2000) of the National Action Plan of Climate Change in Mongolia.
Results of the studies for each selected option have been included in the National Action Plan.
-
Sustainable development scenarios for Mongolia in the 21st century using
modeling methods (1998)
This project was financed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and implemented. The project assessed the past and current situation of Mongolian development and formulated various scenarios for future development to the year 2020, using the modeling approach.
-
Advisory Service Report on Energy Conservation and Feasibility Study for Improvement at Darkhan Cement Plant, Darkhan, Mongolia (1999)
The advisory services were carried out upon request of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development which intends to promote the modernization of local industries through productivity development and therational use of energy. The advisory services also explored opportunities of reduction of CO2 gas emissions, under possible bi-lateral or multi-lateral cooperation agreements including these envisaged under the Kyoto Protocol.
The energy cum feasibility study was conducted by international experts from ESCAP and experts from EEC at an energy intensive industry -- the Darkhan Cement Plant
-
Energy Audit at Eermel and Monnoos companies (2000)
This UNDP-funded project explored:
a) the possibility of rational use of energy consumption and energy conservation;
b) development of an energy payment system; and
c) improvement of the energy management on the basis of a detailed survey on energy consumption at the Eermel and Monnoos companies.
