Profile of
The People Centered Economic and Business Institute
(Institut Bisnis Dan Ekonomi Kerakyatan - IBEKA)

Objectives
The People Centered Economic and Business Institute's (IBEKA) main objective is to work with villagers to establish a more conducive  environment for the growth of a people-centered economic system in their area. It assists community development by improving and promoting entrepreneurship to enhance the economic system and infrastructure, particularly by implementation of appropriate technology in the villagers' daily activities.

Activities
IBEKA has three main activities: 1) planning, engineering and constructing micro hydro power plants (MHP) in  many provinces of Indonesia; 2) planning, engineering, and constructing water supply systems for villages; and 3) assisting with palm sugar distribution through a "mutual business system". It also gives MHP training courses and drinking water pumping system seminars.

Sample Project

IBEKA'S most powerful instrument in achieving its objectives has been
MHP  plants. A good example of an MHP project is the one at Waikilosawa in the West Sumba district of East Nusa Tenggara province. Full statistics, civil and electro-mechanical specifications, a site illustration, photographs and map can be found on their bilingual web site by clicking on this link.
IBEKA has successfully executed 25 MHP projects with capacities below 100 kilowatts in the provinces of Aceh, Sumatera Barat, Sulawesi Selatan,  and Nusa Tenggara Timur. Each power house is managed and maintained by a Village Electricity Consumer Group or Village Cooperation Unit.
