The Skylake Project has experimented
with a number of building technologies. We defined "appropriate"
technologies as ones that required the user to have no credit, no savings,
no special skills, and no particular amount of education. It also must be
really cheap, strong, durable, beautiful, and one that the user can use
sporadically yet still successfully. The two technologies we tried and
feel satisfied meet all these criteria were bamboo cement and ferrocement. On this page we'll be displaying step-by-step photos of the entire project from Day One until present. We'll begin with photos of the curved, four-bedroom home which is the center of activity regarding Skylake. A combination of Thai Central Region traditional architecture and a Balinese long house was chosen because it seemed the most appropriate blend for the local environment. We call the design "Thai Flintstone". |
